NEW ZEALAND. 1976. The clock ticks. The rain pelts down. The heaters don’t work. The phone rings. The in-tray overflows. Clipboards and circulars rule. And there’s a promotion to be had. This is life in the public service. Ahem. John, Hugh, Jim, Michael and good old Beryl. We follow the lives of those forced to work together on a daily basis in a job that none of them likes. Roger Hall’s public servants have won a special place in the hearts of audiences throughout the country, both on stage and television. Joining with the best of New Zealand’s theatre professionals, we venture back to 1976. This is social history, but not as we (think we) know it. Laugh at yourselves.
